Courts are a great shared community resource and are allocated with fairness, transparency, and courtesy.
Play Etiquette
We encourage everyone to follow proper tennis etiquette, and we're here to help! If you're ever unsure about court rules or club conduct, please feel free to ask a staff member.

Volunteer expectations: YOMTC is a volunteer run/led community club which allows members to enjoy low membership fees. Respect for other players
Talk quietly if adjacent courts are in use. Conversations from baseline to baseline are distracting.
Do not cross behind a court while a point is underway. When the point is over, move quickly across the back of the court.
Spectators should not heckle players or call balls in or out.
Players should avoid making loud noises.
Retrieving or returning balls
If your ball goes onto another court, wait for a break in play before requesting the ball. If your ball presents a danger to a player, alert them immediately.
Return balls that come onto your court to the back of the court at a break in play.
If a ball comes into your court and disturbs your game, call a let.
Making calls
Players are responsible for calling shots landing on their side of the court.
All “out”, “let” or “fault” calls should be made promptly and audibly.
·Any doubt must be resolved in favour of the opponent. Any ball that can’t be called out with certainty is in.
Players should call their own ball out if clearly out (except first serve).
Players should acknowledge if they touch the net, double hit the ball, hit the ball before it crosses the net, or if the ball bounces twice or touches them etc.
Players may question their opponent’s call. If the player acknowledges any doubt, they lose the point.
Breach of Rules
A violation of the rules will result in a verbal warning for the first offence, a written warning for the second offence and a 3 week’s suspension for the third violation and could result in membership being revoked. Breaches will be reviewed by the Executive’s disciplinary committee.
The club manager, with board oversight, may adjust the booking rules to preserve fairness, accommodate weather disruptions, and manage court demand. All changes will be communicated in writing.
Code of Conduct
Members and guests are encouraged to enjoy the club and each other's company by always conducting themselves with respect and good sportsmanship.

Guiding Principles
The York Old Mill Tennis Club strives to balance access between recreational play, team activities, lessons, and junior development. Courts are a shared community resource; to be allocated with fairness, transparency, and courtesy, and this should be expected by all members.
Booking court: Courts must be booked using Court Reserve in the name of the players who will be on the court. Court Reserve must be updated for any changes.
Each player is allowed three bookings per week. Bookings are 7 days in advance beginning at 9:00pm. If a court is available 12 hours in advance, you may book it with no penalty to your three allotted bookings. This 12-hour period will operate on a rolling basis.
Do not monopolize court time by trying to cheat the booking system; this could result in a potential loss of club privileges.
Court Cancellations: Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance. This can be done on Court Reserve, or you can call the clubhouse to let the court attendant know. If the court is cancelled in less than 24 hours a fee of $10.00 will be applied to everyone on the court booking. All fees that are collected will go towards club improvements.
Late arrival: Players have a 10-minute grace period to claim their court otherwise they forfeit their booking, and it becomes available to other players.
If a court that you are playing on has no booking held for the next time slot, you need to ask the court manager/attendant on duty for permission to continue playing,
Rain rules: The court attendant on duty will cancel the court bookings due to rain. An automatic notification will be sent to your email.
Gate: Each season the members will be given the code for the gates. Please do not share the code with non-members.
Keep courts clean: Ensure garbage is disposed of in the bins provided. Do not leave cans, can tops or balls out on the courts; use the garbage cans provided.
