Kerry D. Mitchell

Kerry has been coaching tennis professionally for 40 years. He has coached players of all levels and ages, including touring professionals.   He is a certified professional both in the U.S. (Professional) and in Canada (Coach 2). He is a contributing writer of instructional articles for the tennis web magazine, His career as a competitor started 42 years ago. Coming late to the game (13 yrs old), Kerry stills enjoys competitive playing. He played 2 seasons of junior college tennis (U.S.) and a season of Division 1 college tennis at San Jose State University in San Jose, California.


Over the years he has been ranked at various levels from 4.5 to the Open level. As a senior player he has been nationally ranked in both the U.S. and Canada. Kerry is a 4-time Canadian Senior National Outdoor Singles Champion (2008-2009, 2013 and 2015). He has also a 3-time Canadian National Doubles title winner (2009, 2012 and 2016). He has never been ranked lower than 3 nationally (in senior competition) in Canada for singles.


For the last 8 years Kerry has been the Head Tennis Professional at Sir Winston Churchill Tennis Club where he has run a very successful program for all ages and for all levels. Whatever your level or whatever your age Kerry is ready to help you improve and reach your potential as a player.

Gord Nixon YOMTC Assistant Pro

Gord Nixon – Assistant Pro

Gord Nixon was a top ten ranked junior provincial player in the early 90’s and was a top 50 national player, U18. Gord has been coaching for over 20 years. He is a certified Club 1 Professional and part of the USTA.  His portfolio responsibilities include community club development of progressive tennis, facilitating school tennis programs, and works with collegiate players from the NCAA, Division 1 to 3. In addition , Gord runs club level clinics such as cardio fit tennis for adults and is available for individual or group lessons.

He is looking forward to bringing that success here to York Old Mill Tennis Club.
